Lets learn about Local Area Networks (LANs) ( Part  1.1)

Lets discuss about these about Local area networks ?

So what is a local area network ?

In my opinion local area network is two devices connected to each other withe a physical medium using wires or radio signals.

So the connection helps those two devices to exchange data.

Why we want networks ?

• We need network to communicate .
• We need networks to share our information and resources.
• Its also helps to organize our data .
• It also helps to save our money because share re-souses like printers and other different networks.

So how network organize ?

We must know that networks are organize based on their geographic location.

A LAN is group of computers or devices that,

• are confined to a small area such as a single building.
• share a common communication medium, such as cabals or wireless communication.
• that are connected to central connecting device, like a hub, switch, or a router .

What devices makes up LAN s ?

So what is a Host ?

We can say that host can be a any device that has an IP address, this address use to send and receive data in a network.

This name called IP address help to identify devices and the networks where they are located.

This IP Address  is slimier  to you home mailing address, this is the best way to remember what is a IP Address. 

Then what are the central connecting devices ?

We can called it as a main connection points in a network.

Central connecting devices are responsible for connecting host and transmitting data.

These central connecting devices have different functions that they can preform.

Guys lets see how hubs work.

Host send Data to HUB.

The HUB send that data to all that connected host on the network.

Lets see how Switches works.

• Host send data to switch
• Switches direct data to its intended destination.
• Unlike hubs, switches can send and receive data simultaneously.
• Switches are the most common device to use to connect host.   

example,

PC send data 1 to lap top.Laptop send data 2 to server. So it shows Switches can send and receive data.  

Guy it means that switches are smarter than HUBS.

So how routers work .

Routers work in the edge of you LAN. We can call them as gateways and they act like gateway for other networks.

Router allows communication between host on different networks.

example,

Laptop send data one to switch the it goes to router, and the router send it to the other networks.

How can we connect these devices ?

Computers have network adapters they allow them to connect to the network.

Network adapters via wires and wireless signals, 

   

• Wired adapters have RJ45 port .
• Wireless networks have an antenna.

                                                                                

So what is Wireless Access Points ?

WAPs provides central point of access for devices that want to connect to a Local area network.

Wireless networks can consist of many types of devices,

Micro computers

Lap tops

Smart phones etc.

Conclusion

So at last we talk about what are the Local area networks are and how data send one place to another, so we also talk about  hosts and central connection devices.We also learn about functionalities of hubs, routers, and switches and the needs that we want to connect these devises.
